2020 It's the Harback Life Reading Challenge

Artwork by Shannon Maddox

The Book Nook Reading Challenge has come to a close.  I exceeded my 40 book reading goal by completing 46 volumes.  Time for a whole new reading challenge.

Like my other reading challenges, this one doesn't have any specific instructions or types of required books.  However, some books may be part of various categories.  Examples include:
  • Kiddie Lit - This year, I want to enjoy more children's books.  As a "retired" preschool teacher, I miss reading good books to children.  Plus, there are books from my childhood and teen years I'd like to revisit.
  • Recommended Reads - books recommended by trustworthy sources.
  • Glorious rereads - books I enjoyed so much that I'm reading them again.
  • Everybody's Reading It - books that everybody and their grandma read that I'm just now getting to.
  • Nobody Admits to Reading It - books that others have said to stay away from (whether they've read it or not).
  • Impulse Reads - Books I bought, borrowed, or checked out of the library for no other reason than "hey, this looks interesting."

My rating system continues as follows:

✮✮✮ = Outstanding
✮✮✮ = Pretty good
✮✮ = Could have been better / could have been worse.
= Not so great

Ain't nobody got time for that =
DNF (did not/would not/could not finish)

This year's goal is once again 40 books.  If you'd like to follow my reading progress, see my Goodreads page.

Whether you read one book or 100 this year, I would enjoy some company.  Drop in a comment once and a while to let me know how it's going.

So, what are your reading goals for 2020?

End of the year update.

Well, as you can see, I more than exceeded my goal of 40 books and read 51.  This was a different kind of year all around--some good, some bad.  However, it was a great year for reading.  Thanks so much for joining along on this literary journey.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE.

Are y'all ready for my 2021 challenge?  The new challenge is:

50 for fifty: Introduction

NOTE:  I know this is dated January 1, 2020 but being posted in mid June.  After the Covid-19 insanity hit, this list seemed out of place--and, quite frankly, a downer since I couldn't leave the house.  Now that things are easing up and life will eventually get back to some sort of normalcy, I'm ready to tackle this head on.

I've previously done these 101 in 1001 challenges (see  #1 here, #2 here) to mediocre results.  Don't get me wrong, I've had some great adventures doing these, but I came away from the end of the time limit disappointed because of what wasn't done. I decided to try something a little different this time.

I turn 50 in 2022.

50...

Let that sink in...

No, I'm not old, thank you!

If you've read my blog for any length of time (OK, well, not since quarantine, but you get my point), you know that life has been a struggle for an extremely long time.  These fun lists are an impetus for finding little pockets of joy and delight that hopefully spill over into the lives of others. The thing that has made these lists hard to complete is trying to complete them alone or trying to let them happen organically. So, if this list isn't successful, I most likely won't do another one. BUT I think it will succeed!

Start date:  January 1, 2020
End date:  May 30, 2022 (my 50th birthday)
