Outside my window …  Birds are singing.  The warm spring sun is shining.  There's a light breeze.  A perfect spring Sunday.

I am thinking...   about jobs.  I'm on the hunt, of course, but haven't had much success yet.  Hunting fresh out of college was hard because employers wanted experience.  Now, I have education and experience and am told I'm "over qualified," or the world famous "We're going in a different direction."   How frustrating!  What's a girl to do?

I'm also thinking about all that I've learned so far this year.  It has been so freeing to know that I don't have to make present choices based on past hurts.  I'm just not sure how to incorporate that into my recovery.  I don't need or want to relive any more childhood, teenage, early adult, or mid adult traumas.  I've done that enough.  That's what has kept me stuck.  When does recovery get to the present?

I am thankful...  For another good mileage month.  I got in 60 miles of walking/running plus 25 miles of cycling in April.  Would have done a lot better if I hadn't had a week of cooties.

In the kitchen...  The A-Z challenge begins as soon as I get to the grocery store.

From the Workshop...

Here's the second of the three birdhouses in the quilt-ghan.
One more to go, then I can start setting the pieces and making the appliques.

I am reading...  Finished Made to Crave by Lysa TerKeurst.  The review is here.  Also read The Christmas Quilt by Jennifer Chiaverini.  The review is here.  Currently off the shelf:

From my Pinterest board
"When I get my own house"
I am looking forward to...  Fitting in a bathtub for a good bubble bath.  I can sit in a standard sized tub now, but the bubbles only reach my waist.  No, I want to take a long soaking bath where the bubbles come up to my neck.

I am learning…   Silence is golden.  Some people thrive on getting reactions out of me.  I've not been taking the bait lately, and it's helped a lot.

Around the house...  Decluttered the office some and I can work much better in there.

A favorite quote for today...

"Incomplete people are desperate for others to notice their diet progress, but quickly realize compliments don't ensure connection or intimacy.  They are not more liked or accepted or welcomed in.  And even if they are being liked based on a smaller jeans size, what an awfully shallow place to be." - Lysa TerKeurst

"Don't dress like you've got a raggedy car." - Steve Harvey

One of my favorite things...  Strawberries.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
  • I accidently found out the community band is supposed to be playing at a function at the end of the month, so I'll be headed back to practice on Tuesday.  If Mr. Alpha Male isn't happy with my presence and I end up sitting and not drumming, I'm done.  The director says he needs me, but I'm not interested in twiddling my thumbs and being glared at.

A peek into my day...

I attended by friend Leah's graduation from Jacksonville State University Friday night.  I've had two graduations there myself and attended for several friends, and I have to say...hmm I wonder if I should say it...this one had to have had the dadgum weirdest invocations.  The minister sounded like Lou Holtz (get a towel), plus I just don't feel that jokes about Math and unfinished assignments are appropriate for this venue.  Maybe it's just me.  Oh well, I'm thrilled for my friend.

Saturday was opening day for Jacksonville's Farmer's Market.  I took a gander at it, more about that in my A-Z posts.  After that, I hit the trail with my biking buddy Tamara and got in nearly 11 miles.

Today, I took a quick stroll on the trail...

These have been up near the Jacksonville Community Center entrance to the trail for months.  Anybody know what they're for?

The Crepe Myrtles lining the trail near the gazebo are coming in nicely.  I don't know what color they will, but gorgeous blooms are on the way late summer.  I can't wait to see them.

And now for something totally different...

A Colorado school takes away a child's Oreo cookies out of  her lunch because they didn't deem it healthy enough.  The story is here.  OK, I'm all for kids eating healthier and maybe I would have understood the school's reaction if the Oreos had been the only thing sent for the kid to eat all day.  However, this wasn't the case.  Teachers have a hard enough job without having to be Mrs. Obama's "I Hate Fat Kids Campaign" police.  Could we get back to letting parents be parents and teachers be teachers?  Is this too much to ask?  If a kid is a total disruption to a classroom, a teacher has no power to anything, but by golly, they better pounce on those dangerous Oreos!  After all, a violent kid is better than a fat one anytime.

While we're on the subject...

A Tennessee school's lunchroom served 6 year old pork roast to students.  When alerted to the situation, the superiors told cafeteria workers to make gravy, put it on the meat, and serve it anyway.  If you're not grossed out already, the story is here.  I'm sorry, but this takes mystery meat to a whole new level.  OK, now we've got actual food service workers who don't know what's going on.  Parents, send your kids lunches from home, and send them to a school where they are allowed to eat them in peace.

From Facebook:  Sometimes, I think I'm just too transparent at church. Our church organist was talking about the beautiful diamond jewelry she received from her parents when she turned 21. After I told her how pretty it was, I casually said, 'Wow, you got diamonds when you turned 21. When I turned 21, my dad said "You're old enough to buy liquor now. Let's go get a fifth of Gilbey's."' 2. Hi Shannon! I'm visiting from Simple Woman's Daybook and so glad I found your blog! Loved this post. It had me laughing and I just love Steve Harvey! That was a great way to wrap up the post. As for schools well I could write a book on the things I don't agree with there either. LOL. Crepe Myrtles are so beautiful! I lived in NC for awhile and enjoyed them so much. Love the bird house for your quilt too! Great to meet you, have a lovely day! I'm going to sign up to follow you by email.

    Blessings,
    Jill

    1. Thanks, Anita. This was the first of Lysa's writings I've been exposed to. She's really good; reminds me of Beth Moore.
