I'm currently teaching a Bible Study based on II Peter 1:1-10. Part of the focus of yesterday's lesson was "being instant in season and out of season" when sharing the Word of God. The minister who shared during service talked about how to bring a friend to Jesus. Both lesson focused on not only sharing your story, but establishing a connection with someone before sharing.
Our story is like a good book we want to share. Sometimes, we share like we're leading a book club full of hungry readers fully engaged in the discussion. Sometimes it's like a Little Free Library; we give someone the choice to privately engage in the story. Many times, even this option brings about connection. People will seek out the one who was willing to share their story. Be ready.

This is good counsel, to be ready to share our story when people ask, and most particularly, when they ask the reason for our hope.
